HOSPITAL DENTISTRY

We can arrange to perform a broad range of dental services, including fillings and extractions under general anesthesia at Brooks Memorial Hospital and Buffalo General Hospital.

DOCTORS HOURS

North Chautauqua Dental has office hours daily by appointment. Because we know your time is valuable, we prefer to work by appointment for your convenience. However, we know that emergencies do occur, and they will be accommodated. In order to keep delays to a minimum, we ask that you call for an emergency appointment as early in the day as possible.

Procedures

Amalgam-Free

Patients who prefer amalgam-free dental fillings will be delighted to know that North Chautauqua Dental can work with a variety of restorative materials, including those that are free of mercury or amalgam. Whether you need something as simple as a filling replaced, want to explore the aesthetic difference that a crown could make on a discolored or damaged tooth, or need more complex procedures like replacement tooth implants or root canal therapy, North Chautauqua Dental can work with you to devise a treatment plan aimed at repairing or replacing your natural teeth without the use of amalgams, giving you the healthy and beautiful smile you deserve.

Bonded Fillings

Natural/“Tooth-Colored” Composite Restorations

If the thought of unsightly metal fillings leaves you less than thrilled, you’ll be happy to know that dental science  has made many advances since metal fillings were invented!  Today, if you need a cavity filled, North Chautauqua Dental can use a strong composite resin that looks much more natural and is much less noticeable than a metal filling.  And best of all, composite fillings only take a single appointment to apply—which means you save time while improving the health of your teeth and the appearance of your smile!

Bridges

If you are missing teeth and having trouble speaking or chewing, or are noticing strain when biting, bridges may be the ideal procedure to help make your mouth healthy and beautiful again. Bridges literally “bridge” gaps between teeth by filling them with strong, natural-looking artificial teeth. Bridges are semi-permanent – they can only be removed by a dentist – and are comfortable and proven to strengthen teeth.

Crowns

Crowns are a type of dental restoration which, when cemented into place, fully covers that portion of a tooth which lies at and above the gum line. In comparison, composite fillings/inlays/onlays are dental restorations that are used to fill in or cover over just a portion of a tooth. Since dental crowns encase the entire visible aspect of a tooth, a dental crown in effect becomes the tooth’s new outer surface.

Crowns are used to rebuild broken or decayed teeth, to strengthen teeth, and as a means by which to enhance the cosmetic appearance of teeth. Crowns can be made out of porcelain/ceramic, gold alloy, or a combination of both. Dental crowns are often referred to as “dental caps”.

Extractions

In only the most extreme and necessary cases—such as when its roots are damaged beyond repair—we may extract a tooth in preparation for a restorative dentistry procedure, such as dentures or implants.

Full Mouth Restoration

Severely worn down, missing, or badly damaged teeth can truly have a detrimental effect on one’s ability to chew or to feel comfortable in social situations. Teeth marred by neglect, lack of care, and improper dentistry often require comprehensive restorative treatment, a combination of cosmetic and restorative dentistry procedures that may include periodontal therapy, endodontic treatment, veneers, bridges, crowns, implants or other dental work. North Chautauqua Dental offers you a full range of options to get you smiling again!

If you’re looking for a new dental practice to provide cleanings and oral examinations, or you’ve simply lapsed in your regular dental checkups in our office, please contact us today. We’ll be delighted to schedule an appointment for you, and answer any questions you may have about the hygiene services we offer.

Hygiene Services

The oral hygiene you practice at home—brushing at least two times a day and flossing every day—is great for keeping your smile healthy and beautiful between visits to your dentist, but it doesn’t take the place of the more in-depth cleaning we’re able to perform at North Chautauqua Dental office.  Here, not only can we perform more comprehensive cleaning, but we can also perform fluoride treatments, take actions to prevent or reverse gum disease, or even tell you about a variety of dental options to keep your breath feeling and smelling fresh!

Implant Restoration

Unlike filings or crowns that are bonded to the tooth, dental implants are surgically implanted into the jawbone below the gum line. After the implant is placed, an artificial, natural-looking tooth is attached to it.  Over time, your bone and gum will continue to grow around the implant, providing it with extra stability.

Non-Surgical Gum Therapy

No matter how well you care for your teeth, you may still be suffering from gum disease. Painless and slow-growing, gum disease is still a serious condition that sometimes requires aggressive treatment. After a comprehensive periodontal screening, if gum disease is present, North Chautauqua Dental may recommend non-surgical gum therapy.

The top three non-surgical gum disease treatments are local medication, curettage, and root-planning. All can be done in our office, and you may be given local anesthesia to keep you more comfortable.  No matter which treatment or combination of treatments your dentist chooses, keep in mind that the treatment will likely take place over time, as your dentist tries a treatment and then assesses its effectiveness.

Non-Surgical Gum Treatment Options

Localized medication: Once the area of bacteria and plaque accumulation below the gum line has been identified, medication may be administered directly into the affected areas as a first step toward thwarting the gum disease.

Curettage: When your gum is diseased, the tissues around your tooth can show signs of chronic irritation and inflammation. In the process of curettage, we will remove the infected gum tissue so that new, healthy gum tissue can grow.

Root-Planning: Sometimes, gum disease affects the surface of your tooth’s root. Root-planning is when we give your soft tissue a chance to heal from its disease by removing and smoothing small amounts of the infected root surface.

If the treatments described above do not sufficiently address your gum disease, North Chautauqua Dental may make a referral to a periodontist, who would be able to surgically remove the diseased tissue so that proper healing could occur.

Root Canal Therapy

Dental pulp, found in the center of each tooth, contains a nerve which extends from the tooth’s root to bring vital nutrients to the tooth. If a tooth’s pulp is injured, damaged, or infected, the nerve within the pulp will die and, unless endodontic treatment (root canal) is performed, the tooth may die as well. In many cases, root canal therapy (removal of the nerve tissue in the tooth) can save damaged teeth by preserving the tooth in the mouth.  After the root canal is successfully completed, restoring the tooth with a crown is usually highly recommended to preserve the tooth structure and provide strength for chewing.

Teeth Whitening

Are you happy with the color of your smile when you look in the mirror?  If ugly stains caused by coffee, tobacco, tea, soft drinks, or even wine have turned your white smile dull, you’ll be happy to know that there are a variety of teeth whitening options available. From custom whitening kits to in-office whitening procedures, North Chautauqua Dental can discuss what options are available and help you to determine which one is right for your needs.

Invisalign

Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment that helps to straighten teeth without the use of the typical metal braces. Unlike braces, Invisalign clear aligners are removable and virtually invisible. there are no wires and brackets, so you don’t need to change the way you brush and floss. and, you can continue to eat all your favorite foods.

TMJ (TMD) Therapy

Treatment of these problems can be complicated.  The cause can often be multi-factorial.  Successful treatment may involve other professionals; Physiotherapy, Chiropractors, Massage Therapy, Cranio-mandibular specialists, and Physicians.

Meaningful treatment begins with proper diagnosis. We will do a thorough evaluation of your problem to determine the best way that we can help and the appropriate therapy.
